Committees

Standing Committee Committee Responsibilities

Christian Education
  • Responsible for planning the total education program, e.g., schools of the church, special interest groups.
  • Promotion of church periodicals and care of library materials.

Communications

  • To raise awareness within the congregation and community regarding ministries programs and events planned by Committees and groups of the Congregation.
  • To design and provide for distribution of publicity information related to the congregation.

Endowment
  • To promote awareness of the Endowment Fund and to encourage and assist family and friends of the congregation regarding the importance of having a will and the benefits to them and the congregation of including the church in that will or trust.
  • To encourage, receive, and administer special gifts bequeathed to the congregation Endowment Fund.

Evangelism

  • To have concern for the spiritually indifferent.
  • Enlistment of new members.
  • Deepening of the congregation's spiritual life.

Fellowship
  • To provide opportunity for Christian fellowship.
  • To raise awareness of the various fellowship groups and events provided by the congregation.

Finance

  • Management of the congregation's finances, i.e., planned distribution of resources through the writing of the budget, recommendation of salaries for personnel, responsibility for insurance program audits

Mutual Ministry
  • To keep the pastors and staff advised about conditions within the congregation and to interpret to the congregation the ministry of the professional staff.
  • To review annually the ministry and work of each staff member.

Office Admininstration
  • To provde oversight, support, assistance and resources to accomplish efficient and fiscally responsible management of the church office.

Personnel
  • General oversight of the compensated non-rostered staff of the congregation, serving as a forum for staff to discuss work needs, issues and concerns.
  • Ensure that all non-rostered staff members have a written job description defining duties, responsibilities, lines of accountability, and reporting relationships and will conduct performance evaluations on at least an annual or as-needed basis.

Property

  • To provide proper maintenance for all property owned by the congregation.
  • To oversee the work of the sexton.

Social Ministry

  • Development of a program of concern for persons of all ages in need of aid in body or spirit.
  • To study the social conditions in the area and recommend any congregational and/or individual involvement.

Stewardship
  • The goal of Advent's stewardship ministry is to help God's people grow in their relationship with Jesus through the use of time, talents, and finances God has entrusted to them. This is done by effectively asking the congregation to give, graciously thanking for stewardship actions, and telling what is done with gifts of time, talents, and money.

Worship and Music

  • Concentrating on the worship life of the Congregation.
  • Care of physical property related to the conducting of worship.
